"Dove with Tulips"

The gaudy dove of Paradise which appears in so many pieces of Pennsylvania German folk art is the symbol of the descending Holy Spirit. In Pennsylvania German hymnals the dove is omnipresent. Christ is the lonely heavenly mate of the dove, the one to whom the dove is crying, the one for whom the dove is longing.

The tulips with their three lobes, represent the Trinity.
